**Environmental preparation**
Place the litter box in a quiet corner, choose an open type and low-dust litter. Kittens need to use a shallow basin with a height of less than 5 cm to avoid climbing difficulties. When you first get home, gently hold the cat's paw to simulate the action of digging sand to activate its burying instinct.
**Smell guidance**
Immediately after a meal or after waking up, hold the cat in the basin, dip the excrement with a paper towel and bury it in the sand. If you find that the cat defecates on the ground, do not scold it forcibly. You can transfer the excrement to the litter box. Natural feces will guide the cat to establish smell memory.
**Behavior correction**
Use enzyme cleaner to thoroughly remove odor when defecating randomly to avoid residual odor triggering repetitive behavior. Observe the signs that the cat rejects the litter box: digging the wall and running wildly after going to the toilet may mean that the cat litter is not suitable. You can try to change to different materials such as tofu litter and mineral sand.
**Habit consolidation**
Immediately reward snacks after successful toileting to form positive feedback. Households with multiple cats should follow the "N+1" principle to configure the litter box (N is the number of cats). Make sure the thickness of the litter layer is at least 8 cm, and clean out the clumps every day to keep the litter box attractive to cats.
